Arrived in Brissy

It's a cool 96° here. I thought I just left the tropics??

Cairns to Brisbane today!

This morning I will finish packing and head to Brissy. But first...

Day 6 - complete

These day numbers are getting too high! I survived the reef and I slept for about two hours when I got home. Now it's 730p and I'm going to bed for the night. My skin is a bit warm - can't wait to look in the mirror tomorrow...

Reef day!!!

I'm heading out to snorkel the reef with the Down Under Dive company. Apparently it's the biggest boat around, holding 400-500 people. Safety in numbers or easier to get lost in a head count? Stay tuned.

Day 5 - complete

Image
7p Tuesday in Cairns / 4a Tuesday in Louisville In for the night. We had a twelve-hour day to, in, and from the rainforest. I saw a live, wild cassowary - extremely lucky in this heat. I saw the head of a crocodile. I saw about a dozen big ol' bats and about thirty big ol' cockatoos. I ate live ants off a tree because "they taste like lemon and lime and they help sore throats." My allergies are still maiming me, but it's REEF DAY tomorrow!

Off to the rainforest!

The bus actually came to pick me up for the Daintree, miracle of miracles, so I'll report back when I'm home tonight!

Day 4 - complete

7:20p Tuesday local time / 4:20a Tuesday in Louisville. In for the night.  The lagoon was even more wonderful than I thought it would be (and I think it was what I was most looking forward to on the trip!) - I took about one million pictures. I also made my mom proud by spending some money - I got a foot & leg massage and went up in the ferris wheel! Tomorrow is an early start to go to the Daintree Rainforest.

MEL-CNS

I'm aboard the SkyBus to the Melbourne airport!

Day 3 - complete

7:30 pm local time. I'm back in my room for the evening! I'll get all packed and ready for my 3.5-hour flight to Cairns in the morning.

Monday plan

Image
7:16a Monday here / 3:16p Sunday at home I'm dressed and I've had breakfast at the hotel. Today I'll walk around the CBD (Central Business District - why call it "downtown" when you can make it classy?) and see the graffiti laneways. I may ride up to Collingwood and eat at Easey's (pictured below), since I skipped it yesterday. Maybe I'll even go to Costco in the Docklands just to see what it's like here!

Day 2 - complete

Good news and bad news: the St Kilda Pier is closed for renovations, so no little penguins - but that means I didn't have to stay out until after sunset! I'm in for the evening.

Sunday Plan

Image
6am Sunday here / 2pm Saturday at home Today's plans:  Brighton Beach (to see the famous bathing boxes) Rose St Artists' Market Edinburgh Gardens Carleton Gardens St Kilda Esplanade Market St Kilda Pier (to see the Little Penguins!)

I'm eating everything in sight at the Nadi airport lounge (despite a fantastic dinner and breakfast on the plane). One more flight to OZ!

Dinner in the SFO lounge

Steamed rice, cauliflower, mango chutney, poppadum. Plus a half-eaten Caesar salad and more cookies!

Arrived in San Francisco!

Lounge number one: Verizon Atlantic.

Made it to Dallas

Flight 1 of 11 is done! I'm at DFW enjoying cheese grits, yogurt and granola, and an espresso in the lounge. This particular lounge is where my three favorite spoons came from!

What's the Plan?

Am I having a good time? Am I eating something great? Am I surviving all the fauna of Australia? Find out!
